Verra Carbon Standard: Baseline assessment for the Installation of high efficiency wood burning cookstoves in South Africa.

The Earth Science Africa Team designed and implemented the baseline assessment of the cooking and lighting energy consumption habits of over 1,500 households across four major South African peri-urban townships: Khayelitsha, KwaMashu, Soshanguve, and Seshego. Collaborating with local Non-Profit Organisations, we were able to mobilise over 80 field staff to perform surveys and assessments.

Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP) programme.

Locations: Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lamu Archipelago,  Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The Earth Science Africa Team is providing Technical Advisory Support for the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office’s (FCDO) Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP) programme, specifically focusing on their greenhouse gas accounting methodology. We are conducting detailed and aggregated assessments to evaluate the mitigation impacts of the SMEP programme’s projects within the textiles, plastics, tanneries, and circular economy sectors.

The Green Climate Fund: The Blue Green Bank (BGB).

Location: Barbados.

The Earth Science Africa Team was involved in a large collaborative effort to have funding for the BGB approved by the Green Climate Fund. Our Team was involved in the Mitigation aspects of the proposals and evaluating the feasibility of the bank's proposed mitigation and adaptation activities.

The Blue Green Bank (BGB) will bring together public, private, and multilateral institutions to ensure that green financing for adaptation and mitigation projects becomes and remains available to the local population. The bank will deliver funds, guarantees, and other financial products to support the existing financial ecosystem of banks, credit unions, and insurance companies that facilitate the funding of blue/green climate-responsive programs– in alignment with Barbados’s Nationally Determined Contributions and development plans.

The Green Climate Fund: KawiSafi II.

Locations: Côte d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia.

The Earth Science Africa Team was involved in a large collaborative effort to have funding for the KawiSafi II project approved by the Green Climate Fund. Our team was involved in the ex-ante analysis of the proposed mitigation and adaptation activities of the project. 

The KawiSafi II project is aimed at closing the investment gap in three key areas where sub-Saharan countries struggle to find investors: energy transition, productivity, and mobility & logistics. The fund will invest in local enterprises developing scalable climate action projects to the benefit of climate-endangered African communities.
